Hi all! Recently I’ve received a handful of questions about where I source my yarn so I thought I’d make a list of some of my favorites if anyone needs some inspiration. I mostly shop for yarn online but thoroughly enjoy stopping into our local yarn shops to grab an item or two. I also love shopping for second-hand yarn (sustainable and affordable). If you’re in the LA area, I highly recommend going to Remainders - a sustainable craft store that is just other people’s donations!

Cotton
Queensland Coastal Cotton: I’ve used these for lots of crochet hats and some baby vests. I buy mine at our local yarn shops (The Little Knittery or Wildfiber) but you can find some here or here.
Circulo Cotton Yarn: Another great cotton for crochet bags or hats. I haven’t used it for sweaters as it’s a little more thick and stiff. They also have a really great color selection. You can find some here!
WATG Shiny Happy Cotton: This is by far the softest cotton I’ve tried. It splits easily (which can be annoying) but I think the soft texture is worth trying!
Cumulus Jupiter Moon. This is a cotton blend (94% cotton, 6% nylon) and a little more pricy, but so lightweight and so soft. It was a little too lightweight for a crochet hat (it made mine too floppy) but it would be ideal for a sweater!
Examples of crochet bags I've made with a mix of Circulo cotton and Queensland coastal cotton!
Wool
Malabrigo Rasta: This is my OG yarn; I’ve made so many sweaters and hats with it. It’s my favorite yarn for winter beanies. Super soft and I love that it’s 100% wool. Wool and Company (my favorite online yarn retailer) sells a plethora of colors and ships to within the US very fast!
Cascade Magnum: Another favorite for a super bulky wool with a wonderful selection of colors! At $27 per ball, it’s definitely more pricey but with 123 yards I’ve found that it is a lot of yarn for your money and it will get you far.
HipKnitShop Wool: I love this yarn for its amazing color selection. One of my new favorites.
Malabrigo Chunky: one of my favorites for baby clothes!
Cascade 128: This bulky superwash merino wool is great for baby sweaters and adult sweaters. It does pill if you wear it a lot, but one of those razor sweater de-pillers can help with that.
examples of sweaters and hats I made with Malabrigo Rasta and Cascade Magum. So fun for an extra bulky yarn that isn't acrylic!

Mixed Fibers
HipKnitShop Fluff: OK- this is the most delicious, fun, and fluffy textured yarn. I used it a lot in my knit dresses and vests. Just a note- the colors are definitely more bright and vivid in person than online- so keep that in mind! I would use it on its own in a piece or use it with a strand of mohair to make your project even more fluffy.

Those were my favorites from the top of my head- I will add more as I find them. What are your favorite yarns? Tell me in the comments!
Till next time!
I just bought a skein of malabrigo rasta in the most gorgeous lobster red. It will be the chunkiest yarn I’ve used to date - very excited. Also, that first knit dress is absolute perfection!!
